Babaliba Remake 2005

Babaliba is a Sinclair ZX Spectrum computer game programmed by Víctor Ruiz, founder of Dinamic, one of the great software companies of Spanish software "golden age", in 1984. It is part of the trilogy started with Saimazoom, followed by Babaliba and ended with the amazing Abu Simbel Profanation, starring Johnny Jones.

Babaliba is a video-adventure with fast movements and frenetic action. Colourful and big sized graphics, not forgetting we are talking about a 1984 Spectrum game.

The goal of the game could be the script of a 50's decade adventures movie starred by Clark Gable, or more recently by Indiana Jones (the character that "inspired" Johnny): Bad guy kidnapps our friend and, obviously, we must rescue him and, by the way, pick up the treasure he is keeping in the palace and also kidnap his beautiful daughter. Easy? Let's try it.

The aim we had creating this remake is honoring Dinamic, whose 20th anniversary was last year 2004 and the game itself, because this year 2005 will be its 20th anniversary too. We started doing the game a couple of years ago, but the project has been stopped for a long time until we have decided to restart it to cooperate with REDO project at Remakes Zone.

We hope you will enjoy playing this game as we have done creating it.

"20th anniversary" 1.1.0 version

It was a pity that the remake did not work properly (or at all) on modern operating systems. You have to think that, when we did it, the reference operating system on PCs was Windows XP, and Macintosh computers contained a PowerPC microprocessor inside them. So we got to work and, thanks to the BennuGD2 engine, heir to Fenix, we were able to recompile the game for modern platforms (from 2024, that is). While we're at it, we've added some new features that we hope you'll enjoy:

  • FX Anniversary Edition - Because this year marks the 40th anniversary of the game. That is not really the reason, but it is nice to say.
  • FX Upgraded Engine - We have changed the Fenix engine to BennuGD2, which allows to run the game on modern operating systems.
  • FX Splash Screen - Let there be no doubt about who perpetrated this remake.
  • FX Window Mode - So you can play while watching kitten videos. There is no point hijacking your brand new 4K screen entirely.
  • FX Virtuous Pianist - Use OPQA to wield Johnny like a keyboard virtuoso. No enemy will be able to resist you.
  • FX Dyslexic Gamer - You can also use QAOP if that is your favourite poison. The physiotherapist bill is on you.
  • FX Random Fixes - We have fixed some bugs, but surely we have snuck in several new ones. Chickens in for chickens out.
